The 5th inner-south Manchester Peace Week took place from February 25 to March 4. Back again for another year was local radio station PeaceFM, and another amazing Launch Event at Zion Arts. New was the PeaceWeek Shield sports competition, a ‘Meet The People’ event organised by 100 Days and a LAP It Up day. Guests from LA Brian Gilman and Greg Turk congratulated us on the positive community activity they saw.
- Another superb PeaceWeek Launch event, showcasing the gifts and talents of local young people, again selling out Zion Arts. Organiser Esther Clarke is looking for a bigger venue for next year!
- Eighteen special Assemblies looking at How We Value People, plus 6 workshops and discussions in local schools.
- c/o GMP, guests from Los Angeles Lt Brian Gilman, LAPD and Greg Turk, a pastor and youth worker took part in a number of events, sharing their experience of working in an area of LA with gang crime.
- Terry Christian’s BBC Radio Manchester Wednesday morning programme broadcast live from The Saltshaker for 3 hours, celebrating Moss Side culture. with guests from the community.
- Four more weeks of positive sounds on PeaceFM. “They’re hoping to show off the talents of local young people, a side of Moss Side which the mainstream media so often ignore” BBC News Report. (Want more local radio? Email us and say so)
- A number of positive reports in the press, radio and TV.
- No Lantern march this year due to lack of funds and person-hours. Want one next year? Come and help make it happen.
