The 3rd inner-south Manchester Peace Week from February 27 to March 6 was the biggest yet. Loads of you showing you’ve had enough of ‘Gunchester’ and want to help build ‘FUNchester’!
- Over twenty special Assemblies, workshops and discussions on the theme of Peacemakers in local schools and youth clubs with thousands of young people.
- Children in schools designed and made eight Peace Mosaics, now on permanent display in Platt Fields Park.
- Children in schools and community centres made over 100 lanterns for the “Peace By Piece” parade to Platt Fields where the Lord Mayor unveiled the mosaics.
- “I am who I am” - a CD of Peace Songs sung by children from six local schools.
- Events in Clubs, Churches, Prison, youth and community centres.
- “Taken By The Gun” display at Asda.
- Breakfast with MPs Gerald Kauffmann and Tony Lloyd.
- The Peace Lecture and BBC interview with guest Nims Obunge from The Peace Alliance in London.
- Lots of positive press, radio and TV coverage.
“This is about the community making a stand against violence and trying to give young people a future away from the gangs.” Dorretta Maynard of Carisma reported in the Evening News.
