PeaceWeek 2011

There were also several lantern workshops in the community, all leading up to the Lantern Parade on Friday, where once again the rain stopped in time for us to stay dry as we walked. This year we re-vamped the parade and for the first time finished in Ardwick - many thanks to Healthy Ardwick for partnering with us in this. Healthy Ardwick also put on a number of their own events, including a superb art exhibition featuring yet more talented local people. Other events were put on by local churches and faith groups. Finally, on the Saturday, the OSBAs at The Place Hotel was the grandest yet as more Outstanding Social Behaviour Awards were given out to local people to recognise their positive work in the community or achievement in their own lives. The Launch Event yet again showcased the amazing talent within our young people - singing, rapping, poetry, dancing and drama. The opening weekend also featured PeaceWeek Shield football and netball competitions. Work in schools took place through the week with assemblies and lantern-making workshops.
