PeaceWeek 2011 Events and Activities

The main events and activities of this year’s PeaceWeek. The list can be downloaded as a pdf file here. This page, and the list, will be updated as more stuff gets added or if details change.

Saturday March 5
PeaceWeek Shield: Generating Peace Netball Tournament:
9am–2pm. Millennium Powerhouse, 140 Raby Street, Moss Side, M14 4ST. Info/team registration: 0161 226 4335 or email.

“Your call to be a healer and peacemaker” Day workshop with James O’Dea, former Director of Amnesty International. St. Agnes Church, North Reddish. Tickets and info. (Also events with James O’Dea on 4th and 6th).

Integration Celebration for International Women’s Week. 12-5pm. St. John’s Centre, St. John’s Road, Old Trafford M16 7GX. Free - lots happening. Info: Elaine: 876 0146 or email.

The Launch Event: Whitworth Art Gallery, from 5pm. Tickets: Adults £3.00; under 16s and conc. £1.50; Families (2 adults, up to 3 children) £6.00. Refreshments.

Sunday March 6
PeaceWeek Services Brunswick Church - 10.30am - Brunswick St., M13 9TP; Coverdale Baptist Church - 3pm - Coverdale Cres., Ardwick, M12 4FG; Longsight Church of the Nazarene - 10.30am. Fairtrade and PeaceWeek Cafe after the service (donations for drinks) - Tollgate Close, Longsight M16 9LU.

PeaceWeek Shield 5-a-side Football Tournament: 11am-3pm. Competitions for years 6-8, and years 9-11. Team registration/info: 07799763857 or email.

The Peace Debate: How Do You Generate Peace?
4-6pm.  Facilitator: Rev Les Isaac.  Our Lady’s Church, Raby Street, Moss Side, M16 7JQ.  Refreshments. All ages welcome.

Faith in Women Launch Event 11.30am. An exhibition for International Women’s Day running to April 3. St John’s Church, Ayre’s Road, Old Trafford. Free Entry.

Monday March 7
Launch of City Centre Street Pastors
12–2pm. Rev Les Isaac. Methodist Central Hall, Oldham Street. Email for more information.

Imagine 4–5pm. St Agnes Church, Slade Lane, Longsight, M13 0GN. A space for peace and reflection for all faiths or none with refreshments available.

Tuesday March 8
‘Sustaining Peaceful Communities’ Inter Faith Conference.

Wednesday March 9
Art Exhibition
9.30am–8pm, Coverdale Baptist Church. See a range of local artists at work: painting, sculpture, photography. collagr & more. Take part in creating a piece of art whilst you visit. Artwork can be submitted up to Friday March 4. Prize Competition for best pieces on display and piece that best illustrates PeaceWeek “Generating Peace” theme. Info: Adam 273 1262 or email.

Lantern Making for children 5.30-6.30pm, Kid’s Club, Longsight Church of the Nazarene, Tollgate Close, Longsight M16 9LU. Cost: £1 per child.

Praying for Peace 8pm–12pm Coverdale Baptist Church.

Thursday March 10
Fair Trade Event 10am–1pm, the Amani Centre organised by Trinity Community Church. Fair Trade drinks, biscuit and cake, Drop in for a natter about Peace Week and Fair Trade fortnight. Learn about Fair Trade Cotton garments and how economic justice can bring Peace and Prosperity to farmers in Africa. Share in a short time of meditative worship at 12noon followed by soup and a roll for lunch. All are welcome.

Friday March 11

Family Lantern Parade: 5.30pm from MIllennium Powerhouse, Moss Side and ASDA Longsight Carpark. Meeting behind Longsight Adventure Play 6.30pm for refreshments and entertainment to finish by 7.30pm. Full details can be downloaded here.

Saturday March 12
“In the Tent” Vigil for Peace Longsight Church of the Nazarene - all day 12th and 13th.

Fun Run 10–12pm starting from Brunswick Church. Run, toddle, push to raise money for local activities in Ardwick. Prizes. Registration and sponsorship forms: 273 1262 or email.

The OSBAs: From 6pm at The Place Hotel, Ducie Street, Piccadilly, M1 2TP. Tickets £40 or £350 for a table of ten from the Carisma Office 226 9905 or email. (Black tie). See the OSBA website for more information.

Sunday March 13
6pm, Longsight Church of the Nazarene, Tollgate Close, Longsight M16 9LU. There is no way to peace. Peace is the way - a visual and reflective journey through Longsight. A joint service for peace with local churches.
